Path Ahead

There is a long path ahead to collect community input, facilitate community consensus, and also receive support from the OUSD school board. It is critical to start with community input before getting into details like financial models which will be required later.

The previous RFP effort failed largely because community input was not sufficiently taken into account at each stage of the process. This property is public land (owned by the school district) in a critical location in downtown Ojai.

If a new RFP is issued by OUSD for the Chaparral property, it is important that the community be involved from the beginning on what the site should be used for and how it would benefit the schools and the community. If OUSD requests a General Plan/zoning change for a new proposal, the independent community feedback process is critical to provide Ojai City Council the guidance needed to make an appropriate decision.
